Let me add my thoughts – with a business outcome as well. One size DOES NOT fit all and although most people do better with the support of a group they've told about their resolution (or at least one person who will challenge them on their progress or lack of it!) - this does not necessarily mean it's the best path for everyone.
It's about visibility and accountability.
The more public we are with our resolutions – even by writing them down and sharing them with a wide circle of our contacts – the more likely we are to succeed. It keeps the focus in mind. Same theory about lost car keys – if you are looking for them, keep saying "I am looking for my car keys" – it works to stop your mind from being distracted. Don't believe me – try it.
The more accountable we are – that's the key to success.
We have the same approach to BUSINESS PLANNING, don't we? Hmmm . . . maybe not. Let me ask you to consider the thoughts upper most in mind as we shivered our way through the most recent cold snap in the UK. Energy consumption.
By sharing our resolutions we gain feedback and dialogue – by sharing our plans at any level in the business we can engage with everyone – from the Board to Individual Contributor. We can all make a difference. By being accountable we have everything to win and success is closer.
What business resolutions have you made which are guaranteed to impact the bottom line? How are you making yourself accountable in making this year's resolutions a reality? You can start here – come on – talk to me about it . . .
